Melamine Foam Insulation – Thermal Performance Across Extreme Temperatures

When it comes to thermal insulation, few materials can match the performance of melamine foam. This remarkable material maintains its insulating properties across an extraordinary temperature range. Melamine foam provides very good thermal insulation up to -196°C. At the same time, it can withstand temperatures as high as 240°C. Understanding Thermal Conductivity

At temperatures as low as -196°C, many materials become brittle and fail. Melamine foam retains its flexibility and continues to provide effective insulation. This makes it invaluable for industries that handle liquefied natural gas, liquid oxygen, and other cryogenic fluids.

High Temperature Resistance and Flame Retardancy

At the other end of the temperature spectrum, melamine foam also excels. It can withstand temperatures up to 240°C without degrading. This high temperature resistance makes it suitable for applications near heat-generating equipment. But temperature resistance is not the only safety feature. Melamine foam is inherently flame retardant. It achieves a B1 rating according to DIN 4102, which is the highest classification for flame retardancy in building materials. This means the foam does not easily ignite and will not contribute to the spread of fire. For building construction, automotive manufacturing, and aerospace applications, this combination of thermal insulation and fire resistance is invaluable.
